My Sisters Bones - Book Report :: essays research papers
ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t tell Mom and Dad itââ¬â¢s me, okay?â⬠She Waits. ââ¬Å"Okay?â⬠she says, a little louder. ââ¬Å"Okay,â⬠I tell my sister. ââ¬Å"How are you? Howââ¬â¢s college?â⬠Iââ¬â¢m surprised sheââ¬â¢s calling up here, and glad for the distraction. Billy Weinstein seems to be the only one whoââ¬â¢s noticed how her sister, Cassie, has changed since she left for college. She can tell how she seems withdrawn, obsessed with studying, and how she barely eats. Although Billie wants to talk to her parents about it, every time she brings it up, they just act as though its a phase and that sheââ¬â¢ll grow out of it. Her father continuously says ââ¬Å"Sheââ¬â¢s under a lot of stress now, thatââ¬â¢s all. Freshman year is very hard at Cornell. Sheââ¬â¢ll get her appetite back after exams.â⬠As the story deepens, Billie continues to try and show her parents how Cassieââ¬â¢s actions arenââ¬â¢t healthy. Sheââ¬â¢s even tried convincing Cassie to ask for help or to at least realize she has a problem. ââ¬Å"No Billy, really, Iââ¬â¢m fine. I had some breakfast before, Iââ¬â¢m really not hungry. Iââ¬â¢ll eat later, okay, I promise,â⬠Cassie tells me. What makes it even worse though, is that Billieââ¬â¢s father is a doctor and should be able to tell that Cassie has a eating problem. As time goes on , Billie realizes that Cassie is getting deeper into problems. She sleeps all the time, and has stopped eating altogether. Finally, when Cassieââ¬â¢s dorm director at college calls and tells her parents that she has been getting reports from girls worrying about Cassie, Billieââ¬â¢s parents finally take action. As soon as they bring Cassie to the doctor, they put her in an eating disorder clinic. They all know that it will be a while before Cassie gets better since Cassie still hasnââ¬â¢t realized she has a problem. When Billie tells her that she should gain more wait, all she can say is : ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s not good, itââ¬â¢s gross. I canââ¬â¢t stand it, really, but itââ¬â¢s the only way out of this place. Not that itââ¬â¢s so bad. I mean, in a way, itââ¬â¢s easier. Just a few simple rules. If you gain, youââ¬â¢re good, if you lose, youââ¬â¢re bad.
